Part 1 Introduction & Warm-up (20 pts)
  • Teacher: Hello! How are you feeling today? Are you excited or nervous?
  • Teacher: What time did you wake up this morning?
  • Teacher: What is your favourite subject at school this year?
Note to Teacher: This section is to make the student comfortable. Accept short answers but encourage full sentences.
Part 2 Daily Routines & Food (40 pts)
  • Teacher: Tell me about your typical weekday. What time do you wake up, and what do you do after school?
  • Teacher: Do you usually eat a traditional breakfast? What do you like eating/drinking in the morning?
  • Teacher: Talk about a food you absolutely hate and explain why.
Note to Teacher: Expect the student to use Simple Present Tense (I wake up, I go...). Look for vocabulary like 'croissant, sausages, nutritious, junk food'. Connectors like 'and, but, because' are rewarded.
Part 3 Downtown vs. Village (40 pts)
  • Teacher: Describe your neighbourhood. Are there any kiosks, pharmacies, or skyscrapers near your house?
  • Teacher: Would you rather live in a crowded downtown city or a quiet village? Why?
  • Teacher: Compare city life and village life. (Prompt: Which one is noisier? Which one is cleaner?)
Note to Teacher: Here we assess Comparative Adjectives (noisier, more crowded, cleaner, better). If the student gives a flat answer, ask "Why do you think the city is more crowded?". This is the B1 differentiation section.
